BubbaGirl® Kick Off Party in Albuquerque a Roaring Success! |
BubbaGirl® might have been born in Texas, but it was definitely raised in New Mexico! |
If you didn’t attend the kick off party in Albuquerque on June 19th, you missed one of the most rockin’ and rollin’ parties I’ve attended in a while. There were approximately 200 people in attendance and from all accounts, everyone had an energizing experience with lots of social networking, good food, great music, incredible door prizes, and inspirational speakers. The outcome of the party is that we now have paid membership opportunities, products with our new logo, and lofty sponsorship goals. Click here to view the photo gallery. |
  The first speaker of the evening was Wally Funk, part of the Mercury 13 women from the 1960’s who were the first women to be tested as possible astronaut candidates, first female NTSB investigator, first female FAA examiner, air safety lecturer, flying instructor, winner of two honorary doctorate awards, and all around inspirational personality.
DJ Jones got the room on their feet with her chant of "We Are BubbaGirls, We Will Turn Adversity Into Victory". The announcement was made that DJ now has a role on the TV program "Crash", as well as acting roles in upcoming movies. She spoke of her historic motorcycle ride and the lessons she learned to help her become more of a BubbaGirl®. She encouraged all BubbaGirls to live their own dream. |

Kristen Greenaway talked about the challenges of the Everglades Challenge and announced that BubbaGirl® will be the named sponsor for Team BubbaGirl® in the 2009 Yukon Challenge, the longest and toughest kayak race in the world – 1,000 miles from Whitehorse, Yukon to Fairbanks, Alaska. Kristen explained the danger for herself and paddling partner, Dawn Stewart, who will comprise the only all-female team in the race. She stated “We had to sign a form stating that we understand we could lose our life undertaking this race.” BubbaGirl® has committed to help raise $15,000 for these brave and daring women. There will be more on this race in the near future, including ways you can help support Kristen and Dawn. |
| All in all, the kick off party was the fastest thrill ride I have taken in a while, but well worth it from the enthusiastic responses and interest from women wanting to become a part of our organization. Special thanks to all who helped “put on the show”, especially Nancy Hoing, Emily Leach, Lora Olson, Cindy Russell, Karen Wilson from Black Duck Tees in Albuquerque, Pat Hilburn from San Antonio, Texas, Linda Todd from Canada, Bruce Hosea, LaDessa Padilla, our honored Junior BubbaGirl®, and all of the wonderful attendees. Now, it’s onward and upward to the next event! |
